Cal’s Angels, a non-profit organization focused on granting wishes, raising awareness and funding clinical trial research for pediatric cancer chose Chicago PR firm, Uproar PR, as its agency of record for its latest effort to raise funds for its cause. After a successful campaign with Uproar PR in 2018, Cal’s Angels tapped into Uproar PR for help publicizing its W.A.R. on Wheels (W.O.W.) charity ride. Starting in Santa Monica, California and ending in St. Charles, Illinois, cyclists rode 2,499 miles intending to raise $2,499,999 for critical pediatric cancer clinical trials and research.
The Cal’s Angels team came to this Chicago PR firm again in April 2019 to spread the word and generate as much buzz as possible to increase donations and inspire other riders to join the event. Uproar identified vital members of the media around St. Charles, where Cal’s Angels is headquartered, to share the news with and secure interviews with riders and president and co-founder, Stacey Sutter. This initial outreach resulted in coverage in Chicago Sun-Times, Patch, WDRV The Drive and WTMX The Mix.
Stacey, along with members of the W.O.W team, went in-studio at a local Chicago TV station (WGN TV) and on the Steve Cochran Show on WGN AM Radio ahead of the start of the ride to express the personal importance of the initiative. One rider, Brad Beetham, was able to share with reporters the heartfelt story of his daughter Madi’s battle with pediatric cancer and her success with fighting off the disease.
To continue spreading awareness across the United States, Uproar PR identified major media markets along historic Route 66 to pitch the news and coordinate interviews. Despite the timely nature of the event, Uproar PR was able to secure a camera crew from FOX LA to come to the site of the starting line at the Santa Monica Pier to interview riders before they began their cross-country journey. During their stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the W.O.W. team rode their bikes to the KOAT TV ABC affiliate station to share their mission with its viewers. Uproar was also able to garner coverage in local markets along the route including the Santa Monica Daily Press, Santa Monica Today, Arizona Daily Sun and an interview on KTOK Newsradio in Oklahoma.
To wrap up a successful ride and campaign, Uproar PR secured coverage for the W.O.W. ride finish line celebration party in St. Charles, promoting the family-friendly event in Chicago Parent and Patch’s local event roundups. Over the course of the campaign, Uproar PR garnered 19 media placements with the potential of reaching 58.3M online readers and a combined total of 161K viewers and listeners across TV and radio media.
